Top Sash Weatherstrip Guide

Clad Top Sash Stile Weatherstrip

Color Match with Jamb Liner (White or Tan)

Large Bulb Weaterhstrip: (Interior Wood Side): Cut full length of stile with ends square. Install evenly in kerf on the interior wood side of the stile. End cuts must be straight, clean and flush with ends of stile. 

Clad Top Sash Top Rail Weatherstrip

Solid Foam Bulb Weatherstrip: Cut full length of stile with ends square.

Clad Top Sash Bottom Rail Weatherstrip

Solid Foam Bulb Weatherstrip: Cut full length of rail with ends square. Install evenly into kerf in wood face or bottom rail.

Small Bulb Weatherstrip: (Interior Wood Side)
Cut full length of stile with ends square. End cuts must be straight and clean. Install into kerf closest to interior wood side. Ends must be flush with top & bottom of sash. 

Large Bulb Weatherstrip: (Exterior Clad Side)
Cut full length of stile with end cut square then cut barb of bottom end only back at a 45° angle. End cuts must be straight and clean. Install into kerf closest to exterior clad side.

Bottom Rail Weatherstrip

Solid Foam Bulb Weatherstrip:
Cut 1/2" longer than full length of stile. Punch both ends of weatherstrip to profile ends. Install evenly into kerf on bottom of the rail closest to the exterior clad side.

Definitions
Stile:  The verticle member in a frame or panel into which a secondary member is fitted; sides of the sash.
Rail: The horizontal part of the frame at the top and bottom of the sash. 
Check Rail: A meeting rail, especially one closing against the corresponding rail with an overlap. 

Safety
Follow all established safety guidlines 

Procedure

1. Install the weatherstrip in the top sash

  • Install the 1/4" hollow bulb weatherstrip (PN #WF053 white/WF052 beige) in the groove o the interior edge of both stiles. The weatherstrip must be flush with the ends of the sash. 
  • Install the black, foam filled weatherstrip with the vinyl flap (PN#WOCT8) across the top sid eof the rail. The ends of the weather strip must be flush with the ends of the sash.
  • Install the black, foam filled weatherstrip with the vinyl flap (PN#WOCT8) in the groove on the interior face of the check rail. The ends of the weatherstrip must be flush with the ends of the sash. 

2.  Install the weatherstrip on the bottom sash 

  • Install the 1/4" hollow bulb weatherstrip (PN# WG053 white/ WG052 beige) in the groove in the stile towards the exterior sid eof the sash. The weatherstrip must be flush with each end of the sash.
  • The end of the wetherstrip that meets the rail weatherstrip needs to be trimmed. The barbs need to be trimmed at approximately 45° angle. 
  • Install the 3/16" hollow bulb weatherstrip (PN# WF055 white/ WF054 beige) in the grove in the stile towards the interior of the sash. The weatherstrip must be flush with each end of the sash. 
  • Cut and profile the lower sash bottom rail weatherstrip (WOCT8) to length, 13/32" larger than sash size, using Weatherstrip Punch #1491. Profile below to be on both ends of weatherstrip. 
  • Install black, foam filled weatherstrip with the vinyl flap (PN# WOCT8) which is already profiled across the bottom of the bottom sash rail. The weatherstrip needs to extend past the rail 11/64" on both sides. (11/32" total) and must be flush with the exterior of the weatherstrip on each side of the sash. 
  • Double check that all pieces of weatherstrip are setting flat against the sash and none of them are short. Trim as necessary to lay flat. Replace weatherstrip if short. 

3. Finish

  • Black weatherstrip (PN# WOCT8) must be flush with the exterior of the bulb weatherstrip (PN# WG052 beige/ WG053 white).
  • Vinyl flap on the black weatherstrip (PN# WOCT8) must be flush with the end of the the sash. 
  • Both pieces of bulb weatherstrip, 1/4" (PN# WF052 beige/WG053 white) and 3/16" (WG054 beige/ WG055 white), must be flush with the end of the end of the sash.
